SEO stands for search engine optimization.

Search engines include:

  • Bing
  • DuckDuckGo
  • Google - Most used because of the high quality of search results and because people find solutions to their problems.
  • Yahoo

How do people use Google?

  • Alexa
  • Smartphones
  • Tablet
  • Computer

How do you get more traffic?

Google has 200+ factors in their algorithm. These factors use social signals, user-interaction and trust.

You used to be able to stuff keywords onto a page and easily be able to rank on the first page of Google.

How can I focus on all of Google's factors?

Choose the most important factors to focus on. Google wants the best user experience. Remember the acronym: EAT.

Expertise: Google recently updated its algorithm, so relevance is more important

Authority:
Individual property name versus Booking.com. You can buy authority via Pay Per Click. Google is a business, which means top-ranked sites are often paying to be there.

Pre-COVID-19: Lots of ad competition. During early 2020: No one was paying for ads. Later in 2020: Ads were longer-stay focused for hospitality businesses.

Trust:
How long a customer or guest is staying on your website.
How do online travel agencies like TripAdvisor, Airbnb and Expedia taste to Google?

They taste good! They have the SEO power to rank well.

So how do you make your website more appetizing to Google?

According to Neil Patel, who is the top SEO marketing guru with the number one online marketing search result on Google, your number one focus should be on content. Content will help your website increase in traffic. Google rewards the expert with high quality, niche content.

While Patel calls ongoing content like this a blog, ResNexus has been saying for a while that blogging has changed or evolved. Guests don't read blogs, so remove the word "blog" from your website. Airbnb has something called "online experiences" as part of its blog.

You'll want to choose subcategories for your blog. You can make your content about places to eat, things to do or upcoming events, for example.

What does good content look like?

  • Super thorough
  • Reduce legwork for clients; reducing friction
  • Optimized title tags and meta descriptions
  • Use data
  • Write about a niche
  • Revitalize older content

Is your content what people are searching for?

See if your term or keyword is being searched by going to SEO tools like Ubersuggest, Moz and Google Keyword Planner. These tools will help you analyze the traffic or searches these words are getting, along with how difficult it would be to rank for these tools. You can also scan your website on these tools to get your on-page SEO score or to see how you can improve your SEO.
Successful backlinks

When you link to someone else's website, you give them a backlink, which helps improve their authority on Google. So you want to have thorough, unique enough content that people backlink to you.
